TV Times - 31 October 1970 - The Adventures of Don Quick

I've obviously posted this image of the 1970's TV Times, featuring The Adventures of Don Quick, over there and have written a little about the show and that space helmet's history. However now we are in Strange England's territory and I can explore it a little further and in a broader context.

 

I discovered The Adventures of Don Quick a year or two back and have only watched a single episode; episode 1, which is all that now remains of  the 6 part series.  I absolutely loved it and the concept behind the series as a whole.  However information is scarce and the show is all but forgotten.

 

It's my intention therefor to cover it again, over here, and in more detail. This is partly because I believe it deserves it and partly for the same reason that people studying drawing look at negative space.  You see this isn't simply a nostalgia based blog looking at all those shows and books that make us feel warm and fuzzy.  Sometimes the cultural amnesia is just as fascinating.

Film Review Magazine - February (1973)

Talking of Phase IV and Lynne Frederick, as we were previously.  Here is a small feature called Shooting Now from the February 1973 edition of Film Review Magazine.

If you can squint your eyes enough to read the print (I may need glasses!) you'll find this article from the time of the film's production to be quite optimistic and positive - And contrary to how it was actually received upon its release the following year.

Quite apart from an absolute wealth of images and material on the actress' acting career, it's lovely to find that someone else out there is doing their bit to represent a more balanced and honest account of the lady and her work than the perceived wisdom that she was simply a "gold digger" or a "professional wife"  Great work and a wonderful site.

Look-in #3 (1972)

The cover star is Catweazle, an eccentric 11th century wizard who accidentally travels through time to the year 1969.  And the competitions are all about the Apollo moon missions.  Magic and rocket science in equal billing.  This is 1972.

TV Times - 22 June 1974 - Whodunnit?

Only a couple of weeks after his demise and transformation on the floor of the UNIT laboratory,  3rd Doctor; Jon Pertwee was up and about, and not in the least bit Tom Baker'ish, as he hosted this murder mystery quiz show on ITV.

 

I've a vague recollection of watching an episode or two of this and finding it all a little odd and something of a bonkers concept!  It's still strikes me as a fairly unusual idea now which makes it all the more surprising that someone hasn't resurrected it as a bit of daytime filler at the very least.
