"6" Seventies Super T-shirts - Rollerball (1975)

What an iconic image of 70's Sci-fi.  What a powerful and iconic film that's still has so much to say all of these decades later.  I knew of Rollerball because I read Action(1) and knew that Death Game 1999(2) was a crib on the movie.  I got very excited a few years later when I discovered a handful of images in Sci-Fi Now and was most probably treated to my first viewing on a late night TV channel - It didn't disappoint.

 
There's only a handful of films that have travelled the years with me from TV to Video to DVD and Rollerball is one of them.  You get older, you view it through different eyes and it tilts and shifts and gives you something new each time.  As a youngster its the game and the violence and as an adult its the media and the politics and the power.  Well worth a look if you never have or a revisit if its been too long since you last did. All the truths are still valid and the corruptions still relevant.

But when all is said and done, very little says 70's Sci-fi to me quite so loudly as that font on that orange T-Shirt.

And who remembers The Goodies parody of Rollerball as featured in the 1976 episode "2001 and a Bit" in which the MCC cricket team take on the Rolleregg side. No?  Oh well, it stayed with me.

"I am a Magic Christian" Seventies Super T-Shirts (1972)

You'll have to look closely for this one, its pure background although all the more mysterious for it.

 

This is the boy who turned yellow in the Children's Film Foundation classic: The Boy Who Turned Yellow (1972)

And this is The Magic Christian, a 1969 British comedy film starring Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr, with appearances by John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Raquel Welch, Spike Milligan, Christopher Lee, Richard Attenborough and Roman Polanski. It was loosely adapted from the 1959 comic novel of the same name by U.S. author Terry Southern.

 

I've watched both only recently, well The Boy Who Turned Yellow was this year but The Magic Christian perhapse a couple of years back.  Both are very good and will probably see further discusion around these parts but for now I'm intrigued by the link which is the appearence of this T-Shirt worn by a classmate of young John Saunders (Mark Dightam) for reasons as yet unknown.

What ever they may be its not an accident though because she's clearly framed in the shot.  Somehwere somebody or something links these two films...time will tell

 

I do like an impossible mystery.

"I'M A TOMORROW PERSON" Seventies Super T-Shirts (1976)

We haven't talked about The Tomorrow People yet but we will.  For now though I'm going to assume you have a passing knowledge that its a Classis 70's kids show that almost spanned the entire decade.  Its Sci-fi.  And its about the next step in human evolution.  Look-in used to love The Tomorrow People and Mike Holoway.  Here they are using him to model their exclusive Tomorrow People T-Shirt. Now that's a super T-Shirt.  Anyone wearing that in the summer of 76 was going to look pretty cool in the queue for the standpipe.
